Like most subjects in Jewish studies we learn about the prophets piecemeal. We learn a haftorah for our B’nai Mitvoth and that’s about it. The purpose of this symposium is to give some structure to your understanding of the prophets. The symposium will comprise a series of 15 minute presentations on selected prophets in “lecture” format with handouts.

The first presentation by Rabbi Joshua Neely will be an introduction to prophecy using a theme like…”in times of Israel’s greatest “losses,” even greater men appeared to point out their transgressions and guide them onto the right path.” This will be followed by brief descriptions of the lives of each of 10 selected prophets in terms of who they were, when they prophesied, where they preached and what their main themes/agendas were.
