A Big Todah Rabbah! In the last four months of 2011, or the first four months of 5772 if you like, Temple Israel donated over 800 pounds of food and over $250 to the Pearlman Food Pantry.  Donations collected during Operation Isaiah, our High Holiday food drive, surpassed last year's by almost 20%.  In the last two months, we have amassed a large number of toys for Get Caught Caring, the JFS-sponsored toy drive and have supported one of our families in their commitment to collect for Nikki's Blankets. An established tradition continues as TI's Bikkur Cholim volunteers bring Sabbath wishes to hospital rooms and homes of those in ill health.  A newer program has firmly taken root as TI hosts its ninth monthly birthday party at the Boy & Girls Club of Central FL in Altamonte Springs.  We continue to knit caps for IDF soldiers and newborn babies and look for ways to honor our active military and veterans. Ma'asim Tovim's next meeting will be Wednesday, February 15th at 4:15 pm.  Please consider joining us!

One hundred years ago on February 24th, Henrietta Szold met with a group of women to start the amazing Hadassah Program. The Orlando Hadassah Chapter is pleased to participate and celebrate the significant anniversary at Temple Israel.

Temple Israel Sisterhood invites you to come and listen to Sara Gabriel Nalley, a Jewish

“Ori-Yenta.” She will take you on an entertaining journey through her school days and tell of growing up in Harbin and Shanghai, China.

Sara Gabriel Nalley is the daughter of early Jewish Pioneers who fled their home in Russia prior to WW1 to make a new life in China. Born in Harbin,

Manchuria, she grew up in Shanghai, and attended the Shanghai Jewish School which was run by Sephardic Jews.

Her family, including her parents, moved to Israel in 1948. She was married in Shanghai after WW2 , moved to New York, and later to Miami. She moved to Orlando where she is presently residing.
